How can you bleach things

First of all, you need to understand that washing and bleaching are different procedures. The purpose of the first is to remove dirt from the fabric, the second is to restore the lost whiteness. They are carried out in different ways and most often alternately: the thing is first washed and only then bleached. It also happens differently. Chemical preparations are produced, the use of which allows you to combine machine washing with bleaching. In general, there are many bleaching products that restore lost color to clothes. We have compiled a selection of the most effective ones.

Household chemicals

There are a lot of bleach chemicals on store shelves. They are produced in different forms: powders, liquids, sticks, pencils. The former are designed to be added during washing and for soaking the entire product. The latter are more suitable for local treatment of stains. The principle of action of drugs is different. Based on this they can be divided into three groups.

1. Optical means

They do not affect darkened fibers in any way, but create the illusion of radiant purity. This happens due to small reflective particles that are fixed on the surface of the material. Optical compositions do not always cope with the restoration of white color, they are poorly rinsed out. Therefore, they are practically not produced in a “pure” form, but are added to washing powders or other types of bleaches. For example, in Vanisn Gold or Heitmann.

2. Chlorine-containing

Examples: «Whiteness», «Mitsuei». The active substance is chlorine. It actively destroys coloring pigments, quickly restores a snow-white shade. But you need to know how to bleach white things with Whiteness. Chlorine is aggressive. It destroys the structure of synthetic fibers, spoils wool and silk. It can only be used for plain cotton or linen. But in this case, you should not get carried away. Frequent use leads to rapid wear of the fabric. You can not use «Whiteness» and similar products for colored products — they will be hopelessly damaged.

3. Oxygen-containing products

The active substance is sodium carbonate. When dissolved, it oxidizes the surface of the tissue. It gets rid of dark plaque, stains and smell. The bleach is active in cool water, does not destroy the fiber structure, and has a disinfecting effect. It can be used for colored laundry, since the coloring pigments are not destroyed. Examples: «Oxygen», «Eco2».

Regardless of the method of exposure to the material, all types of chemical bleaches are used strictly according to the instructions on the package.

How to bleach faded whites

Even the most experienced housewives are sometimes faced with the fact that the linen faded during washing. There can be many reasons: along with white textiles, colored ones got in, the pattern on the product faded, or something else. In any case, this can be fixed. Let’s look at several ways to whiten white things that are dyed during washing.

1. Laundry soap

For every liter of water, take 1-2 tbsp. spoons of soap shavings. Moisten the textile, rub it with soap, dip it in liquid for 7-8 hours. Rinse well and launder. Instead of soaking, you can boil textiles for an hour over low heat.

4. Boiling

This is a radical method that can only be used for dense natural fabrics made of linen or cotton. Prepare the mixture for boiling: dissolve the soap shavings, add a little bleach. Instead, you can take soda ash. Boil over low heat for half an hour to an hour. Let cool, rinse, wash.

Important whitening rules

To return the fabric to a snow-white tone, it is not enough to choose a good bleaching agent. You need to know and follow a few simple rules. Let us briefly formulate them.

  • Before processing, read the information on the product label. It describes the composition of the fibers, the permitted and prohibited ways of caring for them. This will help you choose the right bleach.
  • Start by removing stains. You can not process a thing with stains. Under the influence of bleach, they can drastically change color or stain the entire product. For example, rust marks break down and give things an indelible dirty red tint.
  • Remove colored and metallic decor if possible. Applications or stickers may fade, metal may rust. Clothing with non-removable metal parts should not be soaked in hot water for a long time. Only short-term treatment in a solution heated to a maximum of 40 ° C.
  • Before bleaching, separate items from different types of fabrics. Each needs its own treatment. Never bleach cotton, synthetics, wool or linen together. The result will upset: the products will acquire an unremovable ugly gray-yellow tint.
  • Rinse the material well after processing. Unwashed detergent residues will dull the fabric after drying. Over time, dark yellow spots may appear.
