What are the ways to help water the flowers in your absence? Told in video
one Pour water into a bowl
In order for the flowers to receive a sufficient amount of liquid in your absence, you can take a large basin and pour water so that it covers the bottom by a few centimeters. But you can’t put a pot with a plant directly in the basin, as the roots can rot or freeze. So that the liquid moistens the soil, but the flower does not get sick, pour a layer of pebbles into the water and place the pot only on it. In this form, you can safely leave the plant unattended for a period of one to three weeks.
Please note: this method of watering is not suitable for plants that are quarantined or infested with parasites. Through a common «reservoir» pests can move from a diseased flower to a healthy one.
2 Arrange wick watering
To make wick watering, you will need a cord that conducts moisture well: for example, made of nylon or nylon. One end is placed in a container with water, the other — in a pot with a plant through a drainage hole. As the soil dries, the liquid will rise up the wick and moisten the ground. The main advantage of this method is that the plant receives exactly as much moisture as it needs — it will not dry out and will not rot from an excess of water.
3 Pallet made of capillary mat
The capillary mat is made from a material that absorbs water. As a rule, it is placed on the floor, and plants are placed on top in pots without pallets. Through the holes at the bottom of the pot, the liquid will flow to the roots of the flowers. In order not to spoil the floor covering, it is better to lay an oilcloth down. And place the edges of the mat in a container with liquid — so it will not dry out.
four Drip irrigation with a bottle
Drip irrigation is easy to make from the most ordinary bottle. To do this, you need to make holes in the lid and bottom of the container. After that, place it upside down in the soil and measure the amount of liquid that goes into the soil per day, 7 and 14 days. You also need to look at how moist the earth is. Record all results on this plastic container (for example, sign with a marker). Then, depending on how long you leave the plant without care, pour water to the desired mark.
5 glass flask
Another convenient way to maintain humidity in a pot is to install a glass flask for automatic watering. It must be filled with water and immersed in pre-watered moist soil (dry soil can clog the narrow neck). The long flask ends in a cone and will evenly moisten the plant while you are on vacation.
6 «Smart» pot
If you don’t want to spend time and effort on creating a special design to moisten the soil, buy a ready-made «smart» pot that will automatically water the flower. It is enough to renew the water in such a pot once a month — and you can safely leave any home plant unattended.
7 Hydrogel
Hydrogel for home flowers is sold in the form of granules or balls. They are placed inside the soil where the plant is located. Before a long trip, you need to water the flower abundantly. After that, the hydrogel itself begins to exude liquid into the soil while you are away.
