We talked about how the editors of the site at home work, also published photos of our readers’ jobs, and we plan to continue the column — you send a lot of photos of your jobs. Today we will talk about one of the main components of any work setup — a chair.
I started looking for a chair because my back started complaining a little about my wooden chair bought so many years ago. Yes, it was time to choose something else much earlier, but before my self-isolation (and I live in Belarus, there is no official quarantine here, life goes on as usual), I constantly ran away somewhere for two hours, thereby walking, dispersing blood and changing his not the most comfortable chair for exactly the same, but in an institution.
Now the day consists of constant sitting. I try to warm up, but it’s not enough. Sometimes I move to the kitchen for a change of scenery, but even there the chair is not the most comfortable for work.
It was decided to choose a normal computer chair. As it turned out, this is not so easy to do: there are a lot of them, they cost differently, some look minimalistic, and some resemble instruments of torture. In general, an inexperienced person will definitely get confused.
My updated workspace looks like this
I am not an expert and do not claim to be one. Rather, this is my personal experience that I want to share with you. First of all, I advise you to contact a vertebrologist (a doctor who treats the back and specializes in the diagnosis and prevention of diseases of the spine — ed.), get a consultation and find out what’s going on with your back, which chair is definitely not suitable for you, and which one is worth it note. If there is an opportunity to go somewhere and see the chair before buying — do it, observing all precautions. I decided to order a chair with delivery, because of which it had to be changed later, but more on that later.
Which chair is better to buy for a computer
The main criterion for choosing one or another model is the amount of time spent in a sitting position. If you are going to be at the computer for a short time, pay attention to inexpensive, convenient options for you with minimal functionality. Those whose work or lifestyle is associated with many hours of sitting at the monitor need special chairs with mandatory adjustments of all components that have orthopedic characteristics.
The anatomical shape of the product helps to feel comfortable in the chair, repeating the shape of the body as accurately as possible:
- The back is often equipped with a built-in lumbar roll or a special bend to evenly distribute the load, as well as slightly curved edges to fix the torso.

I repeat once again that we are all different, so the chair should be adjustable and suitable for you. Pay attention to the parameters of the chair, the weight and height for which it is designed: these are important parameters, it is better not to “mark” them on them.
Lumbar support
