Good day, friends and just readers of my blog! For the past few years, the debate about which phone is better than iPhone or Samsung has not subsided. Both companies have fans of their products and they manage to find a lot of arguments in defense of one or the other device. Meanwhile, the answer is quite obvious — there is no leader. Both companies make high-quality equipment, and the question of who is better or worse is relevant for the specific requirements of the consumer. Below I will talk about when to buy an iPhone, and when to give preference to Samsung.

Samsung Features

Samsung is a South Korean brand. It has been in the smartphone market for many years and during this time managed to achieve leadership positions. The company consistently ranks first or second in sales worldwide. What are the good devices of Koreans?

  • High-quality assembly — nothing ever backlashes, creaks, or falls off in phones, and the quality of materials is always the best. If some models have a pronounced factory defect, then they are always withdrawn from sale for revision.
  • The best options. Like all Samsung, they have a large number of devices — from frankly inexpensive to the premium segment. At the same time, they do not discount the price tag here — even budget models have adequate parameters for decent performance.
  • Excellent optimization. If you look at the market of modern phones, you can see that one of the trends is the increase in batteries. In terms of battery size, Samsung looks paler, but autonomy is always optimal here. This can be achieved through competent optimization of the filling and software.
  • Quality displays. Once upon a time, Koreans competed with the American Apple for the title of manufacturer of the best displays. The first came up with an AMOLED screen, the second a Retina display. In 2021, Apple is installing Samsung-made AMOLED matrices in their smartphones. Further comments are superfluous.
  • Android OS — Samsung mobile gadgets invariably work with the operating system from Google. You can find many disadvantages in it, but no one will argue that it is a convenient, fast and very functional OS.
  • For several years now, the company has several Galaxy lines with a wide range of prices — from budgets up to 10 thousand rubles to top models under 200 thousand rubles. Obviously, a user with any income will be able to choose what he can afford.

Pros and cons

  • an excellent main camera that allows you to get good pictures in the daytime and acceptable photos in the evening;
  • slow motion mode and a wide range of formats — 4:3, 1:1 or 16:9;
  • twice the amount of RAM and the ability to install a second SIM card;
  • increased level of protection from external influences;
  • lower cost (up to 5000 rubles, depending on the version and place of purchase).

  • compact size and weight;
  • a powerful processor that lags behind in AnTuTu tests (mainly due to lack of RAM), but confidently outperforms competitors in other benchmarks;
  • the minimum size of the frames at the edges of the screen;
  • better selfie quality;
  • the absence of unnecessary software and the Apple Pay service, which is more convenient to use than Android Pay or Samsung Pay.

Most of the other flagship metrics differ little or are not important enough to pay attention to when choosing the right smartphone.

Neither emoji, nor the transfer of settings or the frequency of firmware updates become decisive factors.

And the operating time of gadgets mainly depends on the tasks performed.

Apple features

Apple originated in the US and is also headquartered there. This fact will seem to many to be enough for a purchase, but it’s too early to rejoice — the assembly line is located in the USA. Therefore, to say the American iPhone is a guarantor of reliability would be wrong. The phones are really reliable, but not because the brand was born in America. The reason is different — very high quality control. Other reasons to buy an iPhone are:

  1. Innovative solutions. The world of mobile technology is developing rapidly, but Apple is the trendsetter. Here, they were the first to remove the headphone jack, introduced a “notch” into the display, and removed the cable from the headset. An interesting fact is that not all decisions of Americans «come» to buyers, but if you pay attention to the statistics — whether they like it or not, other brands begin to adopt trends and, in the end, everyone starts using the innovations of the apple company.
  2. Build quality. This was mentioned above — quality control and the best materials at the output give excellent quality smartphones. Yes, they break, but they do it much less often than competitors.
  3. Warranty obligations. Apple’s regular practice is to replace devices under warranty. If the iPhone breaks down, then after checking in the service, the company, making sure that there is a factory defect, will simply change the phone to the same new model.
  4. The best stuffing. Unlike the Koreans, Apple mainly uses its own filling — we are talking about cameras and processors. They are always the best.
  5. Optimization. Like Samsung, Apple is famous for optimization — it’s hard to find an iPhone that slows down unrealistically (except for very old models that have been updated to the latest software). The reason is that by having their own chipsets and their own operating system, the manufacturer manages to achieve a better interaction. And if Android in Samsung can sometimes be “stupid”, then in iOS from Apple this will definitely not happen.
  6. Premium. Unlike any brand, Apple has always been a technique not for everyone. Every year 2-3 new models are released, which are invariably expensive. On the one hand, this is a plus for wealthy people — they use a device that you will not find in everyone, on the other hand, this is a minus for people with low or medium incomes. It’s hard for them to buy an iPhone even with a great desire.
  7. Operating system. This point is twofold. On the one hand, iOS is a convenient and well-thought-out system, devoid of lags, brakes and viruses, but on the other hand, there is less software (but it is enough for any task), and it is often paid. When buying an iPhone, you should immediately put up with the fact that you can’t just connect it to a PC, you won’t download any media files, and you will have to pay money for the most interesting applications.

In conclusion of the conversation about Apple, it is worth talking about one unpleasant nuance. With high quality phones and virtually ageless software, Americans are faced with the fact that their devices do not want to change every year or every couple of years. The company found a solution to the problem, but it is not beneficial to users. After 2-3 years after the start of use, it is no longer possible to install an update on old smartphones — it will not slow down, but it will not allow you to use new features. Which means you have to buy a new one. Another reason why it is better to buy a Samsung Galaxy over an Apple iPhone is autonomy. The apple brand is never famous for its long working time, and if you are an active mobile phone user, then Samsung is still better.

Security and support

The level of security of the iPhone X smartphone can be called higher, since the probability of correct facial recognition using special software is higher than that of Samsung.

However, the Galaxy S9 + has the ability to unlock the screen in a second way — using a fingerprint scanner.

The level of technical support from both manufacturers is quite high.

Moreover, for an Android smartphone, information is available on specialized forums and on the Samsung website, and, if necessary, the gadget can be sent to a service center, which is located in almost every major city.

Apple services are less common, but it is possible to resolve the issue remotely by consulting with a specialist.

What to choose

If you still think it’s better to choose, then Apple will suit those people who are not on a tight budget, accustomed to the best of the best, want to see excellent performance and take high-quality pictures. In this case, you will have to spend time studying your gadget and buying some applications.

For those who also want to get a reliable device, but do not have the opportunity to spend a huge amount of money, the best device is Samsung. It is perfectly assembled, holds the battery well, allows you to take high-quality pictures and opens up a lot of functions for free.

Android or iOS

One of the most important differences between the two smartphones is the operating system.

As usual, Apple’s flagship received the latest version of iOS — one of the best platforms in terms of speed, update frequency and ease of use.

Although the last parameter can be called subjective — for some users, the Android OS is more familiar, although such a system is updated much less frequently.

Rice. 4. Platform interface of two flagships.

Choosing the right platform based on its stability is not easy.

After all, despite the existing (primarily among the owners of Apple gadgets) opinion that iOS is the most stable system, you can find “bugs” in some updates.

Therefore, none of the smartphones wins in this category either.

TOP best Samsung models

If you decide that it is better to buy Samsung, but do not know which model to choose, then the 3 best devices from the company will help you decide.

Samsung Galaxy A50

The Samsung Galaxy A50 is not the company’s most affordable smartphone in 2019, but it’s the best-selling one. This is a device with a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen, FHD +, a waterdrop notch for the front camera. Its resolution is 25 MP. Features include face recognition. The main camera is triple — 25 + 8 + 5 MP. The model runs on Exynos 9610. The memory is represented by two combinations of 4/64 GB and 6/128 GB. You can expand the memory using a microSD card, which has a separate slot. There is a fingerprint scanner in the phone, two bands of Wi-Fi, support for NFC and ANT +. Battery capacity — 4000 mAh, fast charging is provided. OS — Android 9.0.

Price: from 14,100 rubles. (Russia Moscow).

Samsung Galaxy Note 9
If you want top performance and unusual functionality, but are not ready to pay for the company’s newest devices, then it is better to purchase the flagship of 2021, which has not lost its relevance today. The device has a very beautiful appearance, water resistance, 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a high resolution of 2960 * 1440. The main camera has a dual module 12 + 12 megapixels with autofocus, optical stabilizer, optical zoom and video shooting in UHD. Front module — 8 MP. There is a complete set of wireless interfaces, an eye and finger shell scanner. Battery – 4000 mAh with fast and wireless charging. Snapdragon 845 (from China) or Exynos 9810 is responsible for performance. Their performance will be enough for the next couple of years. OS — Android 8.1. A feature of the model is a proprietary stylus with pressure sensitivity — convenient for working, drawing and entering handwritten text.

Price: from 60,000 rubles. (Russia Moscow).

Samsung Galaxy S10
The best smartphone in 2021 released by Samsung is the flagship S10 with an in-screen fingerprint scanner and a front-facing camera in the corner of the display. The model received a relatively small screen of 6.1 inches with a resolution of 3040 * 1440 made using AMOLED technology. There is moisture protection in the phone, all modern wireless interfaces, a triple camera 16 + 12 + 12 MP with excellent night shooting and a 10 MP front camera. Battery – 3400 mAh with fast and wireless charging. The device runs on the best chipset of the year — Snapdragon 855 (not in Russia) or Exynos 9820 with 8/12 GB and 128/256 GB of memory

Price: from 45.3 thousand rubles. (Russia Moscow).

Performance and test results

The power of the two flagships should be compared in terms of the characteristics of the processors installed on them, the amount of RAM, the operating system and integrated graphics.

Testing in popular benchmarks will also help you understand the capabilities of gadgets.

Tab. 2. Phone hardwareCharacteristics of iPhone X Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus

CPU Apple A11 6 core 1.42-2.53 GHz Exynos 9810 Octa 8 cores 1.9-2.9 GHz
GPU Apple GPU, 3 cores Mali-G72 MP18, 18 cores, 850 MHz
RAM, GB 3 6
ROM, GB 64 64 (+400 on microSD)
Platform iOS 11 Android 8 (Oreo)

In terms of memory parameters, the “younger” version of the Galaxy S9 Plus clearly wins the competition — in addition to having 2 times more RAM, if necessary, the user can easily increase the storage capacity several times.

The iPhone has only 3 GB of “RAM”, and it will not be possible to expand the ROM due to the lack of a microSD slot.

Both flagships also have “older” modifications with 256 GB drives — the Apple model will cost about 80,000 rubles, Samsung about 75,000 rubles.

Both models easily cope with any task — from running modern games at maximum settings to simultaneously opening 15-20 tabs in the browser or several not too demanding applications.

However, in tests, the models showed slightly different results:

  • in AnTuTu S9 Plus earned 247,000 points compared to 224,000 for iPhone;
  • in the GeekBench 4 single-core test, the Samsung gadget received only 3733 points, while the iPhone got 4244;
  • in the multi-threaded GeekBench 4 test, the iPhone won with 10401 points (Samsung had 9024).

Rice. 3. Performance in AnTuTu.

Comparing different test results, it can be noted that the hardware parameters of smartphones are approximately the same.

Although the iPhone has less RAM, which limits the number of applications that can run at the same time.

When comparing cameras, it is difficult to single out a clear leader. While the A5 is equipped with a 13-megapixel camera that takes better pictures than the 8-megapixel iPhone, the second shoots video much better.

Apple’s smartphone supports shooting in two modes: normal in 1080p at 60 frames per second and slow motion in HD quality at 240 frames per second. The Galaxy A5 only shoots in 1080p at 30 frames per second.

The disadvantages of the A5 also include optical stabilization, which is present on the iPhone. The absence of this technology affects the quality of photographs: in automatic mode, “noise” appears, loss of detail, and very often a blurry picture is obtained.

The front camera is definitely better on the Samsung A5, as it has a 5-megapixel camera, while the iPhone only has a 1.2-megapixel one. Therefore, if you are a selfie lover, then Galaxy is your option.

It’s worth starting to compare these gadgets with their battery volumes, since the duration of work is one of the main criteria when choosing. For the iPhone 6 and Samsung A5, these figures are quite different, and far from in favor of the first, 1715 mAh versus 3000 mAh, respectively.

Impressive difference, more than 40%. In practice, these differences are clearly manifested. If the battery charge of the Samsung A5 lasts until the end of the day with fairly active use, then the gadget from Cupertino with great difficulty “survives” until lunch. Therefore, if you make a choice in favor of an Apple smartphone, you will have to carry a charging cord and Power Bank with you everywhere.

iphone and samsung phones

The smartphone from Samsung is equipped with a 5.2-inch capacitive Super AMOLED with a resolution of 1080 × 1920 pixels and a density of 424.

The iPhone 6 has a slightly outdated Retina screen, which has a diagonal of 4.7 inches with a resolution of 750 × 1334 pixels and a density of 326.

A comparison of display sizes showed that the iPhone is inferior to the competitor due to slightly outdated technologies used in its design. But this does not make it less quality, so you should not focus on this when choosing.

Payment system

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge were equipped with NFC and MST chips. The first, as we remember, is also used by the Cupertinos in the iPhone to make contactless payments through the Apple Pay system; the second is absent in «apple» devices. In Samsung’s new products, the MST chip will also be responsible for contactless payments, but using the «magnetic secure transfer» technology used in POS terminals. This standard should significantly expand the scope of the Samsung Pay system.

Always-On Display option

The South Korean manufacturer has implemented the Always-On Display function in its new products, which displays information about missed calls and messages, as well as the current date and time, on the screen of smartphones that are in a locked state. The developers considered that thanks to the new option, users will be less likely to activate screens for trifling reasons (for example, in order to look at the time) and therefore smartphones will be discharged more slowly.

How can a Samsung be better than an iPhone?

I confess right away: all the time using Samsung, I felt uncomfortable. What I missed the most was Facetime for video calls and handy AirDrop for transferring files to my MacBook.

Even with the synchronization of photos, I managed using Google Photos and scoring on possible leaks and privacy violations.

However, returning to the iPhone, I find myself thinking that at some points it would be nice to use Samsung’s chips. This is more about the software components, but there is one clear physical difference between these smartphones, except for the size. I’ll start with him.
